It's a New Year!

It's a New Year - that mean new changes and new things to come! There are a few things that will be changing her at Orange Blossom Photography in 2012 -

1) Monthly Specials - the first of every month, I will launch a new special! The special will only run for that month and then it will disappear - I will also have a {Bonus} with each special! Lots of fun! You can see the January Session below!

2) New pricing structure.  Although my session prices will remain the same, specialty products (mini-albums, announcements, cd's, etc) have increased slightly. Print prices have remained the same.

3) Mini-Sessions! I will now be offering mini-sessions on a regular basis.  Many families with young children will benefit from this - upfront cost is low and you only purchase what you like. period.

I work fast. I am silly.  I am goofy.  We will get genuine smiles and some awesome images of your children in a short amount of time.  Your kids won't get bored and they'll have a blast.

Mini-Sessions are $75.00 - no strings attached.

and the big announcement (well...for me at least)...

4) Project 52.  That's right, I'll be completing my very first P{52}. Eek. Thank you Styleberry blog for being my inspiration!

...and for the January Special...

The Bell-Pepper Wedding

One month ago, on October 28, 2011, Miss Bell and Mr. Pepper (yes, you read that right!) said I do in a beautiful, intimate ceremony at the Forest Suites Resort in South Lake Tahoe, Ca.  A destination wedding, friends and family traveled from all over the United States to be witness.
Congratulations to you both!

Shoots for a Cure

Orange Blossom Photography is excited to announce a partnership with Shoots for a Cure (formerly known as Think Pink Photography). Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause. Recently, we changed our name and our support. We now want to support ALL cancer patients, not just breast cancer.
Through our professional photographer network, we are helping cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the cancer patient. Clients participating in a Shoots for a Cure session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. They will also receive a discount on any additional portraits they wish to purchase, although there is absolutely no purchase required at any time.
To support the cause, we donate and fundraise for The American Cancer Society and the Susan G Komen Foundation. All funds generated through donations and various fundraising efforts are paid directly to The American Cancer Society, the Susan G Komen Foundation, in our name, or used 100% for marketing and awareness of our program.
Please subscribe to our blog (on the Shoots for a Cure website) and tell your friends and family about Shoots for a Cure. Awareness is everything and we can’t be successful without you.
I encourage you to view our website, make a donation, or hire a photographer that supports Shoots for a Cure! If you hire me, mention Shoots for a Cure and I will make a personal donation to the organization. If you, or someone you know, would like to schedule a Shoots for a Cure session, please contact me for details.
I am very proud to be a network photographer with Shoots for a Cure, and am anxious to get the word out about this amazing program. For more information, you can contact me, or you can visit the Shoots for a Cure website at http://shootsforacure.com

What to Wear Weekend

Before every session, most clients always ask, "What should I wear?"

To me style is so personal.  It reflects who you are, what you are and more importantly it shows your self esteem.  You want your portraits to mirror all of these things and more.  The first thing I generally tell my clients is that you need to be comfortable.  Although a photo session is a great excuse to add some new fits to your closet, it's not the time to try out a new style or the latest trends.  So many people love to go super trendy, but unfortunately, unless your 17, you're going to look back at your pictures 10 years from now and wonder, "What was I thinking?" (remember shoulder pads and stirrup pants?).  Your clothes should be timeless and lack excessive flair or trendy prints. You want to feel classy, comfortable and most importantly - you should feel AMAZING in what ever you choose to wear. Feel free to accessorize with simple necklaces, bracelets or earrings - but remember, less is more.

When choosing clothing for family sessions, matchy/matchy is not cute unless they're under the age of 2 - but even then it's questionable. It's best to find that one outfit or piece of clothing that you just can't live without (it's often for the little girl in your life!) and then build around that item. This one item can be anything! In the photo below it is the little girl's floral dress. Generally this center piece has color, print and is 'lively.' In the coordinating outfits, it's best to steer clear of prints and stripes. Let your center piece, stay center. Don't forget to think texture. Texture will help create depth and more interesting portraits.

One last note - don't forget to layer! Having layers creates more looks!

1K FAN GIVEAWAY

WOW! What a summer this has been! I officially 'opened' in April with a small goal of a few clients and print orders over summer - maybe 4 or 5. I was taking is slow, learning, growing, practicing. Then the phone rang, the emails came and I had "new" messages on Facebook, all asking for my availability and rates. Before I knew it, I found myself nearly over booked for August, completing print orders and filling out invoices for client packages. I've sent out 22 invoices since July alone! Craziness I tell you!

I'm so thrilled and very honored that families have had the faith in me to take memorable portraits of their newborns, children and family. It has been such an exciting journey this summer and I can't wait to see where it all leads from here. I love doing photography and I love those eyes that just make your heart melt. I love the connections that I've made with other women and vendors across the country and I love the smiles on mom's faces when their children wear their products.

I've learned so much these last few months and I'm so glad I simply, "Jumped on in."

So, here we are 1,000 fans later - wow - Thank you all so much for all of your caring words, messages, posts and support that you have shown myself and my clients.

    Adair and Jerry {Engagement}

Oh dear, where do I start! I first met Adair nearly 5 years ago now - she was the 'new' teacher at school, she was beautiful, bubbly and was going to be joining my department as a volleyball coach in the Spring.  In the following years, we worked together on the school yearbook and co-taught the Leadership class for a year. Surprisingly, Adair was single. I never got it. I mean, how was this brilliant, gorgeous girl not swept up yet? Whenever a cute sub would come in the staff and faculty would check to see if he was single and single, handsome men were always welcome at our staff parties. Alas, no one really ever met Adair's standards until January 2, 2011. I clearly remember texting her back and forth about an upcoming date she was going to go on. She wanted a nice, quiet cafe somewhere in San Ramon or Danville. I threw our a couple of recommendations and she settled on the Basil Leaf Cafe. Hey, I know it's not exactly a little quaint "Italian" cafe, but it is a beautiful and romantic...
The next day, Miss A taunted me a bit about how it was not a cafe (well, at least not the type she was wanting!), but her date went really well and they ended up staying much longer than she anticipated. She was glowing, in a very, very good way and I knew. I knew that Jerry was the one for her. She wouldn't admit it that day, but when she talked about it, she blushed and was quite smitten. It was adorable and reminded me of those days before I had two girls, before I was married, before I was engaged. I was so thrilled for her, for them. In a little less than one year from when these two met, they will be married.  Congratulations Adair and Jerry! XOXO

    Sunday Funday!

This past Sunday, I held a series of mini-sessions, in Danville, free of charge.  I was looking for models for an array of props that I recently received and purchased.  My youngest of the day was 2 months and the oldest had just turned one! Each session was a blast and provided the unique portraits that I was aiming for! New headbands, hats, hairclips and skirts were all modeled during these sessions!

I do offer mini-session portrait packages.  Mini-sessions last about 30 minutes and yield about 15-20 edited images. These sessions are fun and full of high energy! These sessions are perfect if you're looking for that Holiday card photo! Please email me if you're interested!

All of my beautiful, handmade props are always available to all of my clients. To see a list of vendors, please visit the links on my website.

    Here we go!!

...and we're off... blogging away for the very first time.  As I'm sitting here writing this "blog," I wonder if I'll eventually forget about this blog, forget to up date in a timely manner or suddenly become an addicted, "blogger." I have no idea.  I guess we will all see...
This week has been a bit on the crazy side.  It started off with an engagement session for a beautiful young lady and her soon-to-be hubby.  I  have known her since she was in 8th grade, she is like a second sister to me and I love her like she was. We headed out to the city and spent nearly 2 hours hanging out in the cold capturing some great moments.  After the session I was glued to my computer editing away - It was so much fun! This romantic session was followed by a beautiful maternity session for a co-worker.  She is due with her second son on July 12th. Her gorgeous red hair and blue shirt made for some great moments at a local Danville park. On Thursday I had a "session" with a former student of mine.  I have been wanting to get this girl in front of my camera for some time - just because I wanted to really play with the results!   She has a contagious personality and a unique sense of style. Our session together has turned out one wickedly cool pictures - One of my favorites being one taken at the local Dublin Cemetery. On Friday, I had a commercial session for a local salon, Bellezza Cristali's. They are opening a new salon in Pleasanton and have hired me to do before, during and afters of the salon construction! It's a very family oriented salon and gives off amazing vibes.  I can't wait to be a client! Saturday wrapped up the photography end with a beautiful family of 5.  I went to school (and swam summer rec) with mom and our oldest kiddos went to school together this last year. My daughter, being a bit boy crazy, has already sat with me while I've been editing their session! The youngest two, twins, were so much fun to hang out with.  All of the kiddos have these deep, brown eyes that just capture your heart!
Aside from the business of photography during the week, we attended a 3rd birthday party on Saturday followed by our own birthday party for my dear Baby D who turned 1 on Sunday.  4th of July proved to be another great party - we spent it with friends BBQ-ing and watching fireworks - it definitely proved to be more entertaining than we had anticipated!
I hope all of you had a fun and safe 3-day week! Hey, the weekend is now only 4 days away!
    Hopefully, I'll talk to ya'll soon!! :)
